How far along? 21 weeks
Baby size: Cantaloupe, 12.70 oz, 10.51 in (crown to heel)We had the anatomy scan last Monday and she said he was measuring around 12 ounces and was 4 days behind his due date.
Total weight gain/loss: I weighed at the doctor's office last Monday and have gained 11 pounds!! I am shaped so differently with this boy than with Emersyn too!! He's growing ALL AROUND!!
Maternity clothes? Yes. Not looking forward to finding a maternity bathing suit!! There are so few to choose from!!
Stretch marks? Nope.
Sleep: I am able to stay up a little later than I have been. I know it sounds pitiful but by the time the clock struck 8pm, I was ready to doze off!! I am staying up until around 9pm now (but been laying in the bed relaxing since 8pm still :) There have been a few nights I have woken in the middle of the night and been wide awake not able to go back to sleep.
Best moment this week: A not so good moment was my baby girl had strep throat and stomach bug :( Sunday it snowed a little, so even though she was sick... we let her enjoy it for about 10 minutes. She built Olaf (from Frozen) and was so adorable talking to him while looking out the window.
We had our 20 week anatomy scan this past Monday, so I was able to see baby boy for a long period of time. I hope this doesn't sound terrible, but up until this past week I haven't been extremely excited about baby #2 as I had hoped to be. I think the terrible sickness up until 18-19 weeks played a part in it as well as having a toddler to take care of during those LONG weeks. Plus, let's be honest... babies are cute, snuggly, and smell good, but they are A LOT OF WORK. I think being so sick and not able to take care of the one child I have made me put it to the back of my head that I was having another child. I was pretty much ignoring the responsibilities that were ahead because I simply could not face them in the state I was in. Not sure if any of you other mamas have felt that way or not... BUT, when I saw my baby boy on the monitor at this scan, reality set in, and I was happy!! I was actually in awe and praising God for another precious child that he was entrusting to Daniel and me. Yes, we are going to lose lots of sleep soon. I'm going to be tied down much more than I am now to my baby boy's nursing schedule, and I am sure Emersyn will have some hard times adjusting to sharing mommy and daddy. However, this is what we prayed for, for so long, and we know from experience with our first that those sleepless nights, nursing battles, and unexplainable cries end in a blink. You turn around and you have a walking, talking toddler and as crazy as it sounds, you sometimes miss those middle of the night snuggles.
During the scan, we were told that his heart, kidneys, stomach, bladder, etc look wonderful and are working exactly as they should be. They checked the back of his neck and nose for Down Syndrome and there was no evidence of that, and my blood work came back negative as well. At our 16 week ultrasound, we were told that there were two choroid plexus cysts on baby's brain. The lady who did the ultrasound was very positive and reassuring that they are very common and typically go away before delivery. She told us not to worry. During our anatomy scan last Monday, the lady doing that ultrasound told us that there was one choroid plexus cyst on his brain. We were happy to hear that one had already disappeared and continue to pray the other away. These cysts are small fluid filled areas in the brain and they are a common ultrasound finding in the baby during the 2nd trimester of pregnancy. We spoke with the maternal fetal medicine doctor after the anatomy scan and he was very reassuring as well. He explained that the concern with these types of cysts are typically for Trisomy 21:Down Syndrome and Trisomy 18. Baby boy had no other indications of Down Syndrome (nose, back of neck, and my blood work looked normal). With Trisomy 18, there are typically other "markers" especially with the hands and the four chambers of the heart. He said our baby looked perfectly normal with no other markers that lead him to believe Trisomy 18 was an issue. He said that by having the cysts and no other indicators that baby's chance of having either of these would be less than 1%. He did ask that I come back at 28 weeks to do another scan and see if the cyst had disappeared. We then went to our normal OB office where the doctor there also felt very unconcerned and positive about the results. I am choosing to remain calm and pray it through!!
Another great praise for this week... I am finally beginning to gain some of my energy back!! I have had motivation and ambition to "get things done." I condensed my two closets into one this past Thursday with my mama's help so Daniel could move out of baby boy's closet and into one of mine :( Sometimes it's still hard to share even as an adult haha!!
Miss Anything? My size before babies!!! It was pretty depressing going through all these beautiful clothes I have that I am sure will not fit me for a while. I'm not throwing them away though!! They are in tubs ready for me to fit back into hopefully ONE DAY!!!!
Movement: YES!! He has started to kick stronger especially at night. It was so neat seeing how much he moved during the ultrasound. I had no idea he was so active. He kept kicking his right leg over and over :) The ultrasound lady told me I was not feeling much because I have an anterior placenta, meaning the placenta is in front of baby. So when he kicks, it has to be hard enough to go through the placenta to my stomach. Emersyn was the same way.
Food cravings: Cold oranges have been one of my favorite snacks or lunch sides lately. Also very into deli meat and sandwiches (yes, I warm them up to kill any bacteria). Still not into chocolate cake... BUT I fell in love with Mayfield's Heavenly Hash frozen yogurt this week. It's a bit addicting. And I still LOVE cereal. I prefer a bowl of cereal for dinner with cold milk over a home cooked meal any night!!
Anything making you queasy or sick: Greasy foods even though I actually want to eat them. Fries, chicken biscuit, sausage, etc all are appealing to me, but if I eat them... I PAY for it later, so I am just avoiding grease. Mama, Emersyn and I ate lunch last Thursday at The Farmer's Table. We each ordered an entree to split because we love variety. The pimento cheese and chicken salad with crackers was on spot as well as a sandwich we ordered, but I had a bad reaction about 5 hours later because of my sandwich indulge. It had sausage, egg, pimento cheese, and bacon on it along with a side of home fries. It was SOOO good, but Daniel fussed at me because he said I should have known better. Baby boy just does not go for grease.
Have you started to show yet: Yep!
Gender: It's a BOY!!
Symptoms: Bloating at night, calves throb when I lay down at night, I have noticed swelling in my fingers and legs from the knee down.
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Looking forward to: Transforming our house. We have started but have a long way to go. On the to do list: find Daniel a new office location out of baby's room, switch Daniel's closet out of baby's room, turn Emersyn's room into a "big girl room," move crib and changing table into baby's room, and I'm sure there's much more!!
Catching snowflakes on her tongue!! It was melting faster than it could lay :)
I stood at the doorway taking pictures. Daddy is the fun one ;)
Emersyn's very own Olaf!
She watched him until the next day when he started to melt. She said, "I'm going to miss you Olaf. Daddy and me worked really hard to build you!"
Baby brother at 20 weeks and 4 days :)
