Our First Appointment

Almost a week after we found out we were expecting a little one, we had our first doctor's appointment.  Daniel, my mom, and I arrived ready to see our little 10 week old bundle of joy.  After taking my blood pressure, weight, and all the other routine things, we finally were able to go in for an actual ultrasound!!  I watched the screen looking for my baby's head and body to show, but all I saw was a black circle.  I did not ask any questions, just kept looking and waiting for her to locate the baby.  The ultrasound lady then said, "Well there's no baby, just a sac."  A lump came immediately in my throat and my tear ducts were filling quickly.  I quietly said, "There's no baby?"  She explained that there was a place for the baby and it was forming, but that I was only 5 weeks along so all we were seeing was the sac for the baby.  (sigh of relief)  So we did have a baby, the pink line did not lie.  The only problem was that we thought we were 10 weeks along, and now we realized we were only 5 weeks along.  Amazingly our awesome ultrasound lady was able to pick up a low heartbeat in the 80s, but she reassured us that this was normal because it was so early.  She printed pictures for us to keep and we were on our way to see the doctor.  He told us everything looked good so far and that I would soon be feeling sickness, but that sickness was a good thing - it meant healthy baby.  He said he wanted us to come back in three weeks for another ultrasound.  The very  next day the sickness began and was a consistent visitor from around 1pm to bedtime every day.
